You've arrived at DDB University, I am your lecturer for the year and welcome to your first class: BACK TO SCHOOL STYLE 101.
You've been in vacation mode for the past few months and you've been showing off your best vac style, but now school is around the corner and you feel as if you need to hit the ground running from day one of classes. If you're reading this right now then you're in luck because, as a registered student of DDBU we've got your back so stay tuned!
When you're spending your day of classes on campus you want to be as comfortable as possible. This means you can't overdress, unless you want to flex on people for a day or two because, who doesn't like a slight flex. The key to being comfortable is to let your basics take the leading role, almost create like an interchangeable uniform that you can slap on in minimum time. This is a HUGE time-saver and you'll have more time for other things in your life.
What are the basics? What are the essentials?
Before you get back to school consider getting these as your staples and work around them. Eventually as time goes on you'll find what best suits you and you can establish your "campus uniform". For example if you're comfortable with a plain T-shirt with jeans and minimal sneakers (me) then stock up on these pieces the most and add onto them with jewelry accessories, a jacket, an overshirt or a cap. From then you can just chop and change your add-on pieces, but knowing that you're keeping your base outfit the same for the sake of convenience. Below are the pieces that I think are essential additions to your back to school wardrobe that'll cater not only for the last month of summer(Feb), but will also keep you cozy throughout the colder months(links to each piece also provided). If you're still confused on how to wear these pieces, I've also included outfit examples to give you some inspiration.
CROPPED TROUSERS
Super relaxed, versatile and comfortable to wear in any situation whether you have a presentation, going to a function or just attending class.
DENIM SHIRT
Alternative to an Oxford shirt that's more informal and campus friendly.
MID BLUE JEANS (STRAIGHT FIT)
My personal favourite essential to have in any closet.
LEATHER BACKPACK /CARRY BAG
You need something to carry all your stuff to survive the day on campus, so you need to invest in quality.
STRIPED OVERSHIRT
Great for transitional seasons (Autumn and Spring) and can be worn with pretty much anything underneath.
HOODIE
The most NB! essential of the colder seasons, you can literally wear it with anything and it is an amazing layering piece.
SHACKET/CHORE JACKET
Inspired by classic workwear in the late nineteenth century in France. So, not only stylish, but functional if you need to carry any extra supplies. You can style it with a plain shirt underneath or a turtleneck for the more colder days.
LONG SLEEVED TEE
Target buying this piece in a heavy fabric and it'll be a perfect addition to your closet for the colder seasons.
[DDB PROTIP: What's a DDB blog post without a mention about accessories. ACCESSORIZE my friends, don't be afraid of jewelry! It doesn't have to be with 50 bracelets and chains on one outfit. It can literally just be a watch, a ring or two or a chain underneath your shirt. These little things add detail to your overall look that will elevate any basic outfit into something that looks intentional and people will appreciate the extra effort.]
I hope you enjoyed this class at DDBU and stay tuned so you can be apart of the next one! Class dismissed.
