Winter is coming so, DDB is here to gear you up with some winter drip knowledge, so that after the lockdown is over, you'll be ready for the best season to dress up.

The next few posts will briefly focus on one particular winter essential for each post. We'll be giving you some background on each essential and sharing some outfit inspo for each essential.

Welcome to the first essential, the turtleneck.

Growing up, turtlenecks were my enemies. As a kid, you want to feel free and this also applies to clothes. So, you can imagine how unhappy I was when autumn and winter came around, and my mom forced me to wear a turtleneck(hell on earth basically).

Fast-forward to the present day, I have developed an intense love for this cold season piece. It suits my entire aesthetic, by making me look well put together without looking too overdressed. It's perfect to have for any day or night look and has a wide variety of textures to suit your style therefore, this is the ULTIMATE go-to essential for winter.

The turtleneck comes in many forms so, keep scrolling to find one that suits your style.

1.First up we have the traditional cotton rollneck. This is a body hugging turtleneck so it's important to get one that is true to your size.

DDB PRO TIP: How to get the right fit?

To get the correct fit, look at the size of your t-shirt and size one size up for a comfortable fit.

E.g.1 Trent wears a size medium shirt so he gets a large rollneck for a comfortable fit.

Or...

E.g.2 Khaya wants to look more athletic so he gets a medium rollneck since he wears a medium t-shirt

Because of the fit, this turtleneck type would be great as a base piece that you could layer with a thicker item like a jersey or jacket.

2. Next up, you've got chunky/cable-knit turtleneck. This turtleneck has a generally thick texture. It can be worn on its own so it's a perfect piece to wear in a South African winter. It's not impossible to layer, but will need a large layering piece like an overcoat or bomber jacket for those extremely cold days.

3. The final type, is an increasingly popular alternative to a traditional turtleneck. The mockneck comes in a variety of materials and fits. It doesn't go all the way up the neck so it is a less formal alternative to the traditional turtleneck, perfect for a streetwear Don. A mockneck can be a jersey or a t-shirt so it's a really versatile piece to add to your collection.

Hopefully you got some valuable insight and are ready to invest in the perfect turtleneck for you. Stayed tuned for the next post of the Winter Breakdown.
